Master Ke Wen presents the Taoist principle: Chinese culture inspires calm in modern life

On October 21st and 22nd, following the success of the 2016 edition of the Festival of Chinese Culture in Montreal, the Confucius Institute in Quebec hosted Master Ke Wen. Master Ke is an expert in the field of health, a writer, founder and director of the Chinese culture center Les Temps du Corps, member of the committee of the Qi Gong International Health Federation and a promoter of martial arts for the Wu Dang school. Master Ke came to Montreal to offer a lecture to Tai Chi and Qi Gong enthusiasts. The subject of the conference was the Taoist principle and the state of calm, which, for Master Wen, signals an inspiration in modern life by Chinese culture.


Celebrating Chinese Culture in Canada: Confucius institute Day 2016

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between China and Canada, the Confucius Institute in Quebec organized the 2016 edition of Confucius Institute Day on September 24th – 25th, in conjunction with the City of Montreal and Dawson College.


Masterclass of the Canada-China International Film Festival

On September 18, 2016, the Confucius institute in Quebec organized a master class in film in conjunction with CCIFF (Canada China International Film Festival). The festival had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Xie Fei, professor of the Beijing Academy of Cinema and renowned director, as well as Mr. Peter Rist, film critic and faculty at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University. These two experts in the field of film delivered an engaging lecture on film to more than 50 participants,


Champion of the Chinese Bridge Competition: Andrei Zlotchevski

A young man has just been crowned champion of the 15th edition of the Chinese Bridge Championship, an international competition for young people learning Mandarin. This was the first time a Canadian contestant won!


The Confucius Institute in Quebec presents the Ping Tan Opera in memory of the 46th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral relationship between China and Canada

Canada was one of the Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with China. For the past 46 years, these two countries have benefited from bilateral relations. It should also not be forgotten that the cities of Shanghai and Montreal have been sister cities since 1985 and, as such, have participated in cultural exchanges each year.

These concerts focus on the Chinese zodiac become more and more popular each year!


Confucius Institute in Quebec hosts new Consul of the Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Montreal

On March 1, 2016, the new Consul of the Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Montreal, Mr. Jingtao Peng, and the Education Consul, Mr. Sheng Xiong, visited the Confucius Institute in Quebec (CIQ). Mr. Peng met with Mr. Richard Filion, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CIQ, Mr. Scott Miller, a member of the CIQ Board of Directors, and Ms. Meng Rong, Executive Director of the Institute. The conversation was friendly and the welcome warm.


Chinese culture takes root in Canada:

GEP Limoilou inaugurates the first practical class of Confucianism

On 24 February, 2016, at the invitation of Mr. Louis Grou, Director General of Cégep Limoilou, a delegation of four people from the Confucius Institute in Quebec (CIQ) arrived in Quebec City to attend the inauguration of the first practical Confucius Classroom at the school.  The Confucius class at Limoilou is a satellite campus of the CIQ, established in 2013. Confucius classrooms share their teaching resources with their host institution, which, in this case is the Cegep Limoilou. The success of a Confucius classroom therefore marks the dedication of the host institution to the viability of its classroom.

February 10, 2016 marked the beginning of the Chinese New Year: the year of the monkey. The territory of Quebec was firmly entrenched in winter and it seemed that the warm Chinese New Year atmosphere had not yet touched this icy land. Yet, on the road to Quebec City, the artists of the Confucius Institute in Quebec were already beginning to convey warmth to their Canadian friends.

2016 Chinese New Year Gala in Montreal a Success!

On January 10, 2016, the city of Montreal once again hosted the Chinese New Year gala. This gala was held at the Place des Arts theatre and welcomed more than 3,000 spectators. The fifth edition of the Chinese New Year Gala was presented in collaboration with the Confucius Institute in Quebec and several arts associations. The Chinese New Year evening in Montreal has become an annual event that plays an increasingly important role in spreading Chinese culture and promoting Sino-Canadian cultural exchange.
